I am Dr. Sereina Olivia Sutter, a molecular virologist with a Ph.D. from the University of Zurich (Dr. sc. nat.) and a Master of Science in Molecular Health Sciences from ETH Zurich. My research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of viral infections, particularly the interaction of viruses with the innate immune response and cellular machinery. Starting in the fall of 2025, I will return to the Institute of Virology at the University of Zurich as a research associate and senior assistant, where I plan to pursue my habilitation.
I have been active in academic research for over ten years—first as a doctoral candidate and postdoctoral fellow at the Institute of Virology at the University of Zurich, and currently as a postdoctoral researcher at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. During this time, I have supervised numerous bachelor’s and master’s theses as well as dissertation projects and provided over 800 hours of guidance to students at UZH and ETH Zurich. I am particularly proud that the high school research projects I supervised received awards from “Schweizer Jugend forscht”—proof that my mentorship of young researchers has a measurable impact.
My success in securing competitive external funding—including a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowship from the European Union and two grants from the Federation of European Microbiological Societies (FEMS, 2024 and 2025)—demonstrates my ability to design scientific projects effectively and communicate them clearly in writing. I bring this experience in scientific writing at the highest level directly to my editing work.
As an editor, I offer a deep understanding of the requirements of scientific writing: from logical argumentation and a clear thread of thought to proper citation practices and linguistic precision in both German and English. I am familiar with the standards of Swiss universities (UZH, ETH) from my own experience and am well-versed in the expectations of the German-speaking academic context. My close connection to active research and everyday university life allows me to provide students with particularly practical guidance.
In addition to my research work, I have given oral presentations at international conferences, authored publications in peer-reviewed journals, and served as a member of the scientific committee for Swiss National Science and Youth. I look forward to supporting students with my expertise and helping them present their work at the highest academic level.
